We will be working on the lower part of Old Stage Rd and Upper Gold Camp Rd that goes from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek. Its a beautiful area, but tends to need some attention periodically.. There will be 2 groups, one starting at the bottom and moving up, and another starting just below St. Peter’s Dome and working down
We welcome and need additional volunteers, but ask that if anyone is joining you to have them shoot us an email so that we can make sure to have enough supplies, food and t-shirts for everyone. If they decide to come last minute that is ok as well as we do plan for a few extras.
To save time in the morning, we request that you review the waiver form on our website in advance, but we will have copies at sign in as well.
FURRY FRIENDS - We love our 4 legged volunteers, but with all of the food, people, and other 4 legged volunteers, especially at Base Camp, it can be a bit much for them. Therefore, we now request that they stay home for both their safety and everyone else’s..
ROAD CONDITIONS: The road from both directions has had some rain. It has some washboard areas and some pothole/rocky areas that make for a pretty bumpy ride. 4WD is not usually required, but low clearance vehicles aren’t recommended. Slow and easy will get everyone there safely, but means it may also take a little longer than usual so give yourself about an hour from where the road turns to dirt.
DIRECTIONS: Are listed below coming from the top of the mountain and the bottom. Directional signs will be out coming from the top to help guide you so keep an eye out for them.
SIGN-IN & SAFETY BRIEFING: 9:00am at the following locations:
Location 1 - Coming from Colorado Springs take Old Stage Rd (CR 368) out of the Broadmoor area. There is a turnout on the left, right at the hairpin turn where the pavement ends and dirt begins.
Location 2 - BASE CAMP (coming from Divide) – located about 1/4 mile below St. Peter’s Dome. Take Hwy 67 south toward Cripple Creek for 13 miles. Turn LEFT onto CR 81/Lazy S Ranch Rd. Continue for 3 miles and turn left onto dirt road CR 8 (Upper Gold Camp Rd). There is one “Y” at CR 376 where you will need to stay to the right to stay on CR 8/Upper Gold Camp Rd. Continue past St. Peter’s Dome and 1/4 mile to the large turnout on the right. Directional signs will be put up with the morning crew heading up early. Its a beautiful drive, but will take over an hour from Divide so please give yourself plenty of time.

LUNCH: PROVIDED @ 12:00pm at Base Camp
BRING: Refillable water bottle, gloves, wear sunscreen, a coat, long pants & STURDY shoes/boots
We are also working on reducing the use of cups & water bottles so we ask that you bring a refillable water bottle. We will have water to refill them and make drinks at lunch. If you do not have one, we will have bottles of water that can be labeled and reused for the day.
