We will be working on Old Stage Rd/Upper Gold Camp Rd that goes from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek. Its a beautiful area, but tends to need some attention periodically.. The main focus will be on St. Peter’s Dome and the numerous pull out areas and shooting areas and the main roads.
We welcome and need additional volunteers, but ask that if anyone is joining you to have them shoot us an email so that we can make sure to have enough supplies, food and t-shirts for everyone. If they decide to come last minute that is ok as well as we do plan for a few extras.
To save time in the morning, we request that you review the waiver form on our website in advance, but we will have copies at sign in as well.
FURRY FRIENDS - We love our 4 legged volunteers, but with all of the food and people it can be a bit much for them. Therefore, we now request that they stay home for both their safety and everyone there.
CARAVAN LOCATION: Please let us know if you would prefer to caravan from Colorado Springs when you register.
DIRECTIONS: Are listed below coming from the top of the mountain and the bottom. Directional signs will be out to help guide you so keep an eye out for them.
ROAD CONDITIONS: The road from both directions has had a bit of rain. It has some washboard areas and some pothole/rocky areas that make for a pretty bumpy ride. 4WD is not required, but low clearance vehicles aren’t recommended. Slow and easy will get everyone there safely, but means it may also take a little longer than usual so give yourself about an hour from where the road turns to dirt.
SIGN-IN & SAFETY BRIEFING: 9:30am at Base Camp
BASE CAMP – located at 38.740165, -104.956615 on Upper Gold Camp Rd (CR 370) just north of the Rosemont Reservoir Parking area. An added note is that GPS directions will try to have you turn left onto Upper Beaver Creek Rd, but it is blocked off. It will then tell you turn right on it further up the road, but don’t. Just stay on the most heavily travelled road.
DIRECTIONS to BASE CAMP from CS: Take Old Stage Rd (CR 368) out of Colorado Springs. From where it goes to dirt, continue for 11.8 miles and Base Camp will be on the left. It is important to just stay on the most heavily traveled road. You will pass the Old Stage Riding Stables on the left at 5.6 miles, then the road becomes Gold Camp Rd (CR 370) at 6.9 miles, and then you pass Saint Peter’s Dome Overlook at 7.7 miles. Drive time will depend on you, but the average is about an hour from where the road turns to dirt.
DIRECTIONS to BASE CAMP from DIVIDE: Take Hwy 67 south toward Cripple Creek for 13 miles. Turn LEFT onto CR 81/Lazy S Ranch Rd. Continue for 3 miles and turn left onto dirt road CR 8 (Upper Gold Camp Rd). Continue 14.4 miles . There is one “Y” at CR 376 where you will need to stay to the right to stay on CR 8/Upper Gold Camp Rd.
LUNCH: PROVIDED @ noon will be a Sloppy Joe Cookoff between the 3 chapters
BRING: Refillable water bottle, gloves, wear sunscreen, a coat, long pants & STURDY shoes/boots
We are also working on reducing the use of cups & water bottles so we ask that you bring a refillable water bottle. We will have water to refill them and make drinks at lunch. If you do not have one, we will have bottles of water that can be labeled and reused for the day.
